Dr Andrew Ramage
Professional Background
Andrew has extensive experience in the military as a soldier, Officer and Medical Officer. He joined the ADF in 1992 as an infantry Rifle Number and qualified as a Mortar Number in 1993. He discharged in 1997 and spent some time working as an Exercise Physiologist before rejoining the ADF and training as a General Service Officer, graduating from the Royal Military College – Duntroon in December 2005. He gained sponsorship to the Graduate Medical Scheme in 2007 and graduated from the University of Queensland Medical School in 2010.
Dr Ramage attained Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2015. He has been posted to the role of Senior Medical Officer in 1st Close Health Battalion (now 1 Health Battalion), Joint Health Unit South Queensland and 2nd General Health Battalion and 2 Health Battalion. Dr Ramage has tailored his professional and clinical experience to the military health context and has attained Masters qualifications in Population Health, Health Management and Sports Medicine. He has an interest in mental health and has completed two years of additional hospital training in Psychiatry as an accredited Psychiatry Registrar. He will be completing training in Focussed Psychological Strategies for general practice early 2025.
Dr Ramage is interested in all aspects of General Practice but is particularly interested in military medicine and Veteran health, lifestyle medicine, exercise and sports medicine and chronic disease management. He has held positions as the Chair of the RACGP Chapter of Military Medicine (now the RACGP Veteran Health Specific Interest Group), Editor of the Veterans' Medicines Advice and Therapeutics Education Services (Veterans' MATES), and a board member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry Military Veteran and Emergency Services Personnel Mental Health Network.
Dr Ramage has recently transitioned to civilian life and is coming to terms with having to decide what to wear each day. When not consumed by dress standards, he enjoys walking along the Brisbane river and spending time with his wife, adult children and grandchildren.
